Shopping Grievances 2!
I don’t usually experience this personally, since I’m a miniature person, but a lot of my tall friends find this very aggravating =]
It has been raining a lot lately here in Boston, and I keep making terrible decisions when it comes to jackets! Maybe you will learn from my mistakes =]
I just signed up for this really cool site called Everlane. It is an online shop that sells designer quality clothes for under $100. I’m really excited about it, as this philosophy is one that I have felt strongly about for a long time. I have always tried to provide affordable options to my readers, because style shouldn’t require a fat wallet!
The site isn’t available for everyone yet, but I encourage you to sign up and check out their tumblr for sneak peeks! If you could use my link to sign up, I’d greatly appreciate it as I could get earlier access to the site =] And even if this doesn’t seem like your thing… putting in your email to help out a friend couldn’t hurt, right? ;P
Anyway, this seems like a great opportunity to get quality clothes for a reasonable price. I really support the company, and the idea of affordable, fashionable, clothes for the masses.
What do you think?
Anonymous said: I love your fashion advice!! I was wondering if black over-the-knee socks would look alright paired with darkish brown knee-high boots?? I really want to find cream colored socks to wear with the boots but I'm having trouble finding some so I'll just have to settle with the black ones for the time being! =D!
(Me, circa 2008, rocking brown boots with black tights and skirt)
Thanks so much for your kind words! I really appreciate knowing people read my blog, and I love answering style questions!
Needless to say judging from the picture above, I think you can definitely wear black socks with a brown boot! I’ve already covered how to wear knee socks (http://kicks-n-giggles.tumblr.com/post/5329020440/knee-socks) and how to mix neutrals (http://kicks-n-giggles.tumblr.com/post/5005257396/mixing-neutrals) in previous posts, so check them out if you haven’t already! They should give you some general tips for outfits you can make with this boot/sock combo.
I think one really cute outfit would be to pair this boot/sock combo with black tights and a black skirt. I would avoid blue jeans because that would be too many neutrals in a small area. You can definitely wear your brown boots with jeans though! For a top, you can go with almost any color (Once again, I might skip navy). I think teal or mustard would look great, and they are some of my favorite colors this fall. You also can’t go wrong with white or cream. An oversized sweater or cardigan is always nice with a short skirt. To finish it off, adding a brown purse (of a similar color to your boots) would make the outfit look very chic. It isn’t necessary though, so no worries if you don’t have something like that! It might even be fun to add a lighter shade of brown, such as a tan trench coat. Here are some examples from lookbook for more outfit ideas:
Hope this helped, and I’d love to hear back with what you decided to wear or if you have any style questions in the future =]
I know I disappeared… but look! Pretty words of advice!
Here is a little toy to play with, a way of me apologizing for going AWOL! These are some clothes that I like, they are all reasonably priced (95% under $100) but still super cute! I noticed that I’m definitely crushing on H&M, Topshop, ASOS, and Modcloth =] Maybe I’ll plan a trip to good ol’ NYC to get my shop on!
I’m writing up a post on how to use colorblocking right now, and I used this as a bit of inspiration! I wanted to give you guys something to tide you over until I get photos/wardrobe stuff working, so here you go! I use lookbook.nu a lot to inspire me and to figure out how to tackle certain trends. Usually I go through and find the outfits I think really work, and then try to figure out what ties them all together!
Where do you find inspiration?
